- “Being trans is a mental illness.” No. Gender dysphoria (distress from mismatch of identity and body) is a diagnosable condition, but being transgender itself is not a disorder. The WHO removed “transgender identity” from its mental disorders list in 2019.
- “Kids are transitioning too young.” Social transition (hair, clothes, name) has no medical risks. Puberty blockers (reversible) are not given until early puberty. Hormones or surgery are not available until later adolescence/adulthood after extensive evaluation.
- “Nonbinary is just a trend.” Nonbinary identities have existed across cultures for millennia (e.g., Two-Spirit people in Indigenous nations, Hijras in South Asia).
- “Trans people are a threat in bathrooms.” Zero credible evidence supports this. Trans people are far more likely to be harassed or assaulted in restrooms than to harass others.
