The Game-Changing Diagnostic Tool
Security Risks
- Use built-in hanging protocols to auto-arrange series (e.g., chest, CT abdomen).
- Create custom protocol:
- Universality: It was the "gold standard" for PC-based diagnostic viewing. If a hospital bought a PACS, eFilm was often the client software chosen because it worked with almost every vendor's archive.
- Stability: Once configured, the software was highly stable and capable of handling massive datasets (thousands of slices) better than many competitors.
- Speed: The local caching mechanism made reviewing prior studies extremely fast compared to web-based viewers of that era.
- CT/MR Reading: The multiplanar reconstruction (MPR) is present but rudimentary. You can generate orthogonal reformats, but real-time 3D volume rendering requires the separate "eFilm 3D" module (not included in the base workstation).
- Measurement Tools: Accurate. The ellipse ROI for area and standard deviation, calipers for distance, and angle tools meet basic diagnostic needs. The "Cobb angle" tool for scoliosis is a nice touch.
- Cine: Full-frame rate playback for echo and cath lab studies is smooth on period-appropriate hardware.
