Physical Sky/Area Lights
: Modern renderers like Redshift or Octane have built-in HDRI environments that are more efficient than old plugins. In your C4D object manager, go to Render
The Rig:
It includes a custom environment system that allows you to swap lighting setups instantly.
- HDRIs come in high bit-depth formats (radiance .hdr or .exr) to retain highlight detail and enable realistic lighting.
- Works best with physical renderer or third-party renderers in Cinema 4D that support image-based lighting (Irradiance/IBL, path tracing).
- For accurate reflections, position and scale of HDRIs and ground planes matter; some packs include light rigs to complement the HDRIs.
- Performance depends on HDR resolution and renderer settings; lower-res maps speed iteration, high-res used for final renders.
Version 1.8 is very old
: It was designed for older versions of Cinema 4D (R12 through R20).
