Finding the perfect party among the 108 Stars of Destiny is the core of the Suikoden II experience. While the game is beatable with almost any combination, certain characters possess stat growths, rune slot flexibility, and unique abilities that place them in a league of their own.

Role:

Evasion Tank / Support Why A-Tier: Nanami has the highest Luck stat in the game, leading to constant critical hits and dodges. Her unique Guardian Rune (if you keep it) is decent, but she shines with a Fire Lizard Rune or Double-Beat Rune . She should be equipped with a Water Rune for off-healing. Her major flaw is low Strength—she won't kill bosses quickly, but she never dies.

: Generally considered bottom-tier due to low growth and limited utility compared to the 100+ other allies.

• Nanami – Fast and evasive, but low damage. Best as an item user or support (Water Rune). Unites with Riou.
• Shu – Great magic growth, but joins late. Best as a second mage behind Luc.
• Gengen – High DEF but low damage. Good early tank, falls off later.
• Tuta – Excellent MAG growth but low HP. Glass cannon mage.
• Yam Koo – Balanced, reliable. Unites with others for decent damage.
